Music Class Lesson # 9 A & B

Music Class Lesson # 9 A & B
K-4

Hello, Jamesville Hero's! I hope you had a wonderful week and had a chance to wish your Mom a Happy Mother's Day! I hope you did something nice for her.
Here is a funny, silly, crazy song about many things NOT to do on Mother's day!
K-1 Keep the beat when you listen.
2-4 Keep the beat as you listen, but find the A and B parts. (Verse and Refrain) Keep the beat for A (verse) in one way, then switch when the B part (refrain) comes in.

Kindergarteners and First grades!  Tune in to this video to have a fun class with Lindsey!

was an American folk musician and songwriter. He was a longtime friend of
Woody Guthrie, and founder of The Almanac Singers and The Weavers, two
famous folk bands. Seeger's usual musical instrument is a banjoSeeger started Broadside, a magazine devoted to folk music, and also Sing Out! to
promote music and singing by the public. He received awards for his music,
including the American National Medal for the Arts, and a Kennedy Center Honor.
He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and even the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as an influence to rock musicians.
Seeger sang and wrote songs about things that are important to him,
 like the environment.

Second Graders - Fourth Graders
Lesson B:

Another famous song that Pete Seeger sang is called " Inch By Inch"  The song
was taught to him by a man who lived in Maine and it is perfect for the spring
because it talks about tending your garden.  Do you think the song is only
talking about gardens?  What else could the song be talking about?
Here are the lyrics and a video of Pete Seeger singing it int eh 1970's. Whoa!
Yes, they had video back then!  Watch the first time, then watch again and
 sing along.

Inch by inch, row by row

Gonna make this garden grow

Gonna mulch it deep and low
Gonna make it fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row

Please bless these seeds I sow

Please keep them safe below
'Til the rain comes tumbling down
Pullin' weeds and pickin' stones

We are made of dreams and bones

Need a place to call my own
'Cause the time is close at hand
Grain for grain, sun and rain

Find my way in nature's chain

Till my body and my brain
Tell the music of the land
Inch by inch, row by row

Gonna make this garden grow

Gonna mulch it deep and low
Gonna make it fertile ground
Plant your rows straight and long

Season with a prayer and song

Mother Earth will make you strong
If you give her loving care
Inch by inch, row by row

Gonna make this garden grow

Gonna mulch it deep

Here is another version of this song by another American singer/songwriter,
John Denver.
Compare the two versions.  What is the same?  What is different?
This is a sing-a-long video, so please sing!
Extra Credit:

Will your cup game work with the  "Inch by Inch" song?  Try it!
